Considering an inline alternative? Compare the booking workflow before the bill
If you are considering an alternative to inline for your restaurant, begin with the tasks your host team performs every day. Online reservations, staff-entered bookings, table assignments and a walk-in queue are one group of needs. Deposits, automated messages, marketplace discovery and customer records can be separate requirements. Removing one of those services might reduce subscription costs while adding work at the host stand.
VDine may fit venues that want reservations, eligible waitlists, table states and ordering connected within one restaurant platform. Its free core includes native reservation and waitlist management, but that does not make it a drop-in replacement for every inline contract, integration or notification service.
What exactly are you replacing?
Take actual reservations from the past week: one online booking, one phone booking, a cancellation and a late guest. Then compare what your current system and a prospective replacement do from initial request through seating.
| Daily task | What to verify in a replacement |
|---|---|
| Guest books online | Date, party size, available slots and behavior when full |
| Staff takes a call | Manual booking entry and consistency with online reservations |
| Host assigns tables | Holds by party size, service window and table configuration |
| Walk-ins join a waitlist | Queue rules and how they interact with upcoming bookings |
| Guest changes or misses a reservation | Status, cancellation, rescheduling and table release |
| Reminder or deposit is required | Exact message channel, deposit flow, payment provider and refund ownership |
inline publicly describes booking and queue management, including automatic text confirmation and queue notifications. See inline's own booking and queue explanation. Availability and charges depend on the current contract and configuration; this article does not estimate inline's price.
What the native VDine booking workflow supports
Guests use a restaurant-specific booking link to select the date, party size and an available slot, then provide the contact details required by the venue. The system returns a booking-management link.
Staff can review reservations, enter bookings received by phone and mark check-in or seating states. For eligible postpay restaurants, reservation table holds help prevent automatic waitlist seating at a table set aside for an upcoming booking. Once the guest is seated, the dine-in ordering flow can begin.
Review VDine reservation, waitlist and table management and test the exact hosting sequence. Do not assume a generic online payment feature also covers reservation deposits, automated SMS or third-party booking marketplaces.
Compare the complete cost of switching
Separate software fees from messaging usage, payment transactions, device costs, onboarding and ongoing support. Ask both vendors to quote the same scope over the same period.
VDine's core restaurant POS includes native reservations and eligible waitlist management. Online payment, electronic invoicing and AI service depend on the selected plan and setup. Check current VDine pricing and what the free POS core covers.
Protect existing bookings during cutover
Export or otherwise record every booking taking place after the proposed switch date, including the party size, date, contact details, special notes and deposit status. First confirm which fields your current provider can actually export. Do not assume an automatic migration tool exists.
Test your new public booking link before replacing the links on your site, social profiles and QR codes. During overlap, designate a single booking source of truth and reconcile changes made in the old and new systems. Track unsettled deposits and refunds separately.
When should you evaluate VDine?
Consider VDine if you run a seated restaurant where staff manage online bookings, phone reservations and walk-ins, and you want the floor and ordering process connected. If your bookings mainly arrive from a particular external marketplace, or you depend on specific deposit and reminder features, keep those on the must-test list rather than assuming parity.
Request a VDine booking and onboarding demonstration. Bring your booking rules and an example of an existing reservation that the new system would need to handle.
